Oakridge Neighborhood Services received $ 45,000 grant from Variety – Children’s Charity, to support its summer youth employment program. According to a press release, the program provides paid employment opportunities to youth aged 14 to 21. It includes workshops on professional skills, career exploration, and opportunities for leadership and community engagement. The Oakridge neighborhood is one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in Des Moines, with over 72% of its residents being immigrants and refugees from more than 21 countries. Ninety-nine percent of Oakridge neighborhood residents are low income. Oakridge Neighborhood provides services to adults, children and families to help them succeed and become financially independent.
