Extracurricular Program Activities | Miami Community News

As part of the City’s After School Program at Mary Saunders Park, our students recently had the opportunity to get creative and decorate their study room with Halloween decorations. Helped by City staff, college students enrolled in our after-school program also participated in the Halloween Drive-Thru Spooktacular event held at McTyre Park on Friday, October 29 at 6 p.m. The event was held in a drive-thru format as a public health precaution. The students volunteered their time to make sure the kids in our community left the Halloween event with a smile and fun treats.

The Parks and Recreation Department will also help coordinate and prepare for upcoming city events, including the annual Thanksgiving turkey distribution, the holiday toy contest, and the free monthly fresh food distribution. Our after-school program participants are able to help and learn more about the planning process when staff organize special events.

Empowering our young people in decision-making is one of the criteria of our program, as our goal is to prepare our students for their next high school experience.

If you are interested in our free after-school program which offers homework help, field trips, and physical and nutritional education, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 954-985-1990 or email Dan Millien, Director of parks and recreation at: dmillien @ cityofwestpark.org.
